Placement Of Humidifier For Cigar Cabinets
Cigar cabinets have multiple shelves and are used for commercial applications. To ensure adequate humidity maintenance, install the humidifier at the lower left corner of the cabinet.
However, the best you can do is get a customized cigar humidor, considering the size of your cigar cabinets.
Where to Place Humidifier in Glass Top Humidor?
For solid lids, placing the humidifier in the middle of the lid is obviously ok. But when you do the same for a glass lid humidifier, won’t it ruin the aesthetics of your cigar collection?
To avoid such a situation, you can place the humidifier at the bottom. However, in this case, you’ll have to rearrange the cigars to make space for the device. The better option you can go for is to mount the humidifier at the front or back of the humidor sidewalls. This will hide the humidor when you see the cigar box from the glass lid.
Tips For Putting Humidifier in Humidor
1. Fill The Water Tank Before Placing The Humidifier in the Humidor
Unlike other traditional cigar humidifiers, electric humidifiers don’t need seasoning. All you need to do is to fill the water tank. However, be careful about the type of water you use. Distilled water is the best and most affordable solution; you can also use propyl glycine, though it’s a bit expensive. Once you are done with filling the tank, the humidifier is ready to install inside the humidor.
2. Block The Plug Hole In The Cigar Cabinet
Most modern cigar cabinets come with a built-in socket at the bottom of the cabinet. You can easily power up the humidifier by placing it on the lower shelf of the cabinet.
However, the ones without a socket have a circular hole on the cabinets’ back to pass the power plug. After passing the plug through this hole, seal it up with a sponge. This will not let air enter or go out from the cabinet.
3. Avoid Direct Contact With Cigar
Direct contact with the humidifier makes the cigar too moist and soggy. For this, you must place the humidifier at a suitable distance away from the cigars.
For example, when you store a large number of cigars in the humidor, the cigars will reach close to the lid/humidifier. So, cover them with a cedarwood veneer to prevent the cigars from facing direct airflow from the humidifier.
4. Place Multiple Humidifiers For Large Humidor
Maintaining uniform humidity becomes tricky for large humidors, especially the ones with trays. In this case, you can opt to place multiple humidifiers.
For box humidors, place humidifiers on the sidewalls or partitions of the humidor. And if it’s a large cigar cabinet, install multiple humidifiers on the lower shelf after some intervals. This will maintain constant humidity all over the cabinet.
5. The Position Of The Humidifier Shouldn’t Block Airflow
If you place the humidifier in such a way that blocks the air, moisture from the humidifier won’t be evenly distributed. That is why you always leave space around the place where you set the humidifier.
For even airflow, choose an electric humidifier with a built-in fan. This will ensure airflow in every part of the humidor, maintaining constant humidity.
